I very rarely watch TV, but when I do I like:
Simpsons,
Home improvement (Tim Allen),
Emergency Room,
I watched nearly all parts of Star Trek together with my son,
Recently I started to watch the early parts of Gilmore Girls because my daughter told me it is a must,
I liked the Bill Cosby Show,
all about animals, (my favourites are tigers),
soccer matches, especially Champions League, sometimes Motocross and Snooker
a lot about sciences,
some talk shows, depends on the guests,
here in Germany we have a kind of talk show where a psychologist makes a short "therapy session", solving a problem. I like figuring out what the real problem might be when they start.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others. (Groucho Marx)

I don't have a TV.

Anyway, I am irritated by the number of posts here suggesting there is a life outside of bridge and BBO.

We don't watch TV - turned it off years ago as advertising was too intrusive and I absolutely couldn't stand the thought of seeing shrub's face in my livingroom. I am addicted to a couple of old shows which we purchased on DVD, and I can watch them over and over again:

Soap
Babylon 5

Lord of the Rings movies (best movies ever made, in my opinion)

A show that isn't out on DVD yet, but I still have hopes for is Twin Peaks. I am a David Lynch fan. We watched "Mulholland Drive" and liked it so much we purchased it from amazon.com. We also just watched another movie, a collaboration between David Lynch and Disney (that, in and of itself, is so warped we had to watch the movie), called "Straight Story."

Will Jessica find out about Corinne and Peter? Will Corinne find out about Jessica and Peter? Will Benson make fish? These questions and many more will be answered in the next episode of soap.

Classic.

As much as I liked Soap, (Danny Dallas and Jethro Bodine of the Beverley Hillbillies had a lot in common) my favourite show is "Le coeur a ses raisons" which is a parody of soap operas (The heart has its reasons) which makes you laugh 'til your sides hurt. I don't know if it will ever be translated but my recent favorite shtik involves Bret (one of three "twins" all played by the brilliant Marc Labreche) who is still trying to get used to his prosthetic arms (they are about 6 ft. long each). You can imagine the mayhem......
The Grand Design, reflected in the face of Chaos...it's a fluke!

I didn't know you got the British version of Coupling in the U.S., thought you remade it. Never will understand why you insist on remaking excellent shows. Coupling is excellent, but the last series was dire (no Jeff has something to do with it). The Office is quite possibly the best T.V. show ever :D

BSG in the house!

My favorite show, is World Rally Car on Speed. Almost anything on Speed, is nice (I'll tolerate NASCAR; I much prefer road racing). Golf is a close 2nd, winter sports 3rd.

For the "regular" TV, I watch either old Dr. Who on Maryland Public TV or at times I'll grab the occasional newsflash on FoxNews.

Genius might be a stretch, but it was one of the best sci fi series ever - Star Trek: Next Generation and the X-Files are the others IMO.

The TNT Dune miniseries was good, too, better (but not as flashy) as the movie. Didn't really capture the book, though that may be impossible.

i liked the movie dune, but it got panned by the critics (maybe rightly so, i'll leave that to the experts to decide)... and yeah, b5 was a fabulous show, imo the best scifi series tv has had

Just been watching first episode of 'Planet Earth' on BBC. Incredible, stunning pictures of a great white shark hunting seals.

Otherwise, from an Anglo-centric viewpoint: -

ER
Law and Order,

and an absolute classic from the past,

Hill Street Blues.

It's a cliche that US TV is rubbish, but the best US TV is the best in the world.

Gah! How is it that no one has said Deadwood?!

Deadwood!

And Rome

And Project Runway

Survivor

Weeds

And yes Soap was awesome. I like My Name is Earl, but rarely watch it. I can't believe they cancelled Kitchen Confidential.

Well it's not a TV show, but here's my two cents: You can't put the entire novel (talking about the first one only) into a 2 hour movie, not even a 4 hour one. No wonder it's incomprehensible if you don't know the novel. I guess that's why it got panned by the critics.

The atmosphere of the movie is awesome, as is the sound track. That alone makes it a great movie for me, and the cast is excellent too. I'm really sorry that they didn't shell out the budget to make something like the Lord of the Rings series when adapting Dune.

I said Project Runway! :) (Assuming you were including that in your list of tv shows that no one has mentioned.)

Adam likes that show, too.
