So we were playing weak nt 12-14, and pre alerted.

On the opposition were 2 bbo tds.

the bidding goes p-p-1nt (alerted as 12-14)- all pass


Hand makes +2.

Next thing i know, we get average minus-- the td says for fibbing on 1nt.

My partner had 11 hcp.

He alerted the agreement, i passed as i had to pass with my hand.

I told td that was not right. He said that was not a real life game.

I need a reality check-- there are no rules in online games.

This is a fine example of TD's who have little respect for the rules of the game. No doubt if you had been doubled and gone for 1100 the TD would have cancelled that result also because your partner was fibbing.

Babalu, you are not new to the game, nor to BBO.

The ruling IRL can be funny, the ruling here can be beyond words. These things happens. Live with it.

Well i would not call BBO name on to it.

I do live with it, but my partner was quite distraught.

Because this was likely only done because the opps who complained are also tds in kangaroo games. it was the same td who once booted me out of a game because i took a trick with the king and his friend later finessed to lose a trick with the Queen.

He taold me he adjusted -- because he can, just as he told me he he booted me because the other player plays his game very night.

So, yes i will post it here because?:

1) it will warn people that this happens all the time. so they will not feel so bad

2) some of these tds might actually get an education.

i suspect it would not be the worst idea to rescind TD privileges from some of these people. that does, of course, create more work for the BBO staff, which is never appreciated .

It sound to me this guy works as TD mainly to have the possibility to have the ruling as he himself wants it, also when it is in his own favor.
Or if you want to be really cynical, to have the possibility to cheat as he pleases.



ps. It would be good to hear his version. Perhaps he does have a point??

I think you are right take the 'privileges away

Perhaps you should avoid playing in this director's tournaments in the future? One of the problems is that people don't really "vote with their feet" on BBO and continue to play in tournaments run by poor directors. If a lot of people feel the same way perhaps this director will try not to make these sorts of rulings or will even stop running tournaments altogether.

Yes, i have done that at times, and give a sabbatical to certain tournaments.

The size of BBO somewhat precludes voting with the feet, in a membership of 25,000 thousand, a fool is literally born every minute.

However, the quality of a game is not necessarily static and, I do not of a td who once got a spanking and now runs reasonable games.

Some of my partners believe erroneously that tournament play is more competitive than main bridge club, whereas i think main bridge club play is less susceptible to bias.

The fact that the table host assignment process has been changed make it harder for me to convince them to play main club, but I generally enjoy playing there better.

I think it depends on your motivation. If you vote with your feet with the intention of driving out of business a poor TD then I would agree with you - it is unlikely to succeed. If you vote with your feet with the intention of gravitating toward a more enjoyable playing environment for yourself, then you may still hit unlucky on occasion but the strategy should work on the whole.
