Scoring: Silly

6NT by South
Special Rules

a ) At the Woodenhead Christmas Social I reached 6NT by South. At the social an extra rule comes into play after the auction. It might be “the opening lead will be made at random”, or “dummy plays its own cards without prompting”. A slip indicates the rule. This time it was that “the partner of a person who wins a trick will lead to the next one”. West led the queen of clubs and East played the seven. How did I make my contract; and what were the E/W hands?

b ) Lo and behold, a few days later, at the Buttons Xmas Social (another special slip event) my partner and I picked up these identical hands, and again we reached 6NT by South! This time I was disappointed to find that the “special slip” indicated that aces had become low and twos had become high, so that all cards were in reverse rank, but I still managed to make my contract. Again West led the queen of clubs and East played the seven. How should I play and what exact layout do I need?

"Curious hand", observed my friend the Owl. "6NT cannot be made without the special rules."

TIP: don't try this with a hangover, it will increase your headache. And you won't solve it.

If so, I would like to know where, as I created it for a Xmas card for a few friends a few years ago!

FYP

I'll admit it's a trap.

Edit: Come to think of it, I may just be silly overall. Inform me.

that is interesting - there was a discussion in a forum on whether it should be an Xmas card or a Xmas card. An LCD was regarded as clearly right, as was an X-ray machine. This is a bit different as nobody says Xmas Card, we all say Christmas card and use Xmas as an abbreviation.

But, as gnasher would say, it is unlikely that the hand was included to foster discussion of whether it should be "an" or "a".

At first glance it seems like the diamond suit needs to be 3/4 on my right and 7 on my left. Interesting exercise :) I hope its legit and not a "haha made your brain hurt" situation :)

Well, just for the record;

The reason for my initial reaction was, that the word "exmas" has actually been pronounced by quite a few danes.

It was a danish brewery that launched a beer called X-mas, and as the word is not being used otherwise here in DK (a dane writing in english would write "christmas"), people pronounced it "exmas".
