1nt but I bid 1nt on many many off shape hands in the range.

I need to define the hands somehow....and 1nt is a one good way.

I Need to restrict my 1x=1y=1s hands somehow so I try and pull out as many bal or semibal hands out of that auction as possible.

I like 1NT better because the five-card suit is ratty and I have questionable soft values in diam. If the clubs were better and my diamonds Kx instead of QJ, then 1C probably better.

the easy 1s rebid is a illusion. Yes it is easy, but I have done nothing to describe my size and shape, yet. A 1NT opening is not a thing of beauty, either, but that is what I start with. Maybe I will be declarer, and pard will never notice. And, it certainly wins the race to 1NT if the opponents belong there.

It is so borderline that I would not care.

If you open 1C followed by bidding 1S, you will have shown 5 clubs and 4spades, asuming the 1S rebid denies a bal. hand, which is a common treatment if you
happen to play Walsh.

So after the rebid you have shown your shape.

Good case for 1NT here.. strong doubletons, weakish 5 card suit... I'll try that.

I have an easy 1 rebid but an uneasy pass at my third turn when p bids 1NT (or 2 assuming that we don't play XYZ here). Maybe due to Walsh, 1-1-1-1NT is 8-10 so this is worth an invite, but if p starts with 1, 1NT is probably 6-10 so this hand becomes awkward.

I think I open 1NT but I don't have a strong opinion about it.

QJ is not a holding where you wanna get the lead Ax is neutral, those arguments lean towards 1, but they are not enough IMO, I'll just bid 1NT

The easy 1 rebid is a red herring because when partner bids 1NT or 2 or 2 or rebids his suit over that you have an impossible 3rd bid where you are right in between raising and passing. Also your opponents have an easy overcall. And what's the gain, to get my Kxxxx of a minor in?

1NT WTP!
