Just to make this constructive, do people think 5 shouldn't even exist or what should it mean?

I would say more clubs and no spade ace.

The bid should not even exist, unless you have attached a very
precise meaning to the bid. (*)
The reason being, East is still unlimited, so West should give East
the chance to make a move toward slam, without commiting the
partnership to slam.

(*) And if you do this, the bid will extreme rare.

I voted 50/50. I don't like 5. But I don't like east's failure to splinter or pass of 5 either. East has the freakin' nuts for this auction. Massive controls and 4 card fit..

I wouldn't want to splinter with East's hand because my 2 can be as short as 2, or 3 if you prefer it.

for you to have a problem you would have 3 or less , 2 or less and 3 or less .....hmmm that leaves 5 or more now why were you bidding ?

Pool: there you go making assumptions again. Why are you assuming the hand has 13 cards?

So, after 41 people have voted, the poll shows that West gets over 75% of the blame. Do we want OP to think that is actually the final answer, or do we now think that East should have been able to visualize 12 tricks opposite a minimum 2/1 response and sign-off by partner?

I believe the poll does not really reflect a proper blame assessment because West should probably not have had the opportunity to make the bid that everyone hates. And the fact that East failed to visualize is obscured by the focus on 5C.

If the poll were to choose the worst call, then......

3244, 33(43), 4333, 4243, 4144, 4342 are typical hands. If you don't like it with 4's, assume they are Jxxx or worse.
