Hand doesn't show up yet in myhands, so I can't post... LHO is playing 4♥. We have 3 unavoidable tricks. We take Trick 1, declarer takes Trick 2 and 3 and claims the rest. I misread the explanation and thought he was claiming a total of 10 tricks, not 10 more. When I saw the -480 register, I called the director and the conversation went:

me→Table: hi. i read the claim wrong
me→Table: should not have accepted
me→Table: he cannot avoid losing diamonds
director→Table: sorry... can't do anything about it now
director→Table: next time be more careful
me→Table: oh, so not really playing bridge here?

Then, I got ejected from the tournament. Oh well...

Interesting. I was able to have the director correct my false claim after it was accepted on OKB in a tourney. He just changed the score for making five to 620, and left it looking just like that: 4H+5 +620.


There is always a way to beat the software.

At the beginning of one tournament last week, the director announced "don't ask for a score correction, because I don't know how to do it".

To which I would have replied "then you should learn before you run another tournament". And then I would have left.

Boards can be adjusted on BBO, some people won't or don't know how I guess.

True. I don't know why they did not adjust the hand. Maybe too busy, or maybe they did not know how to do it. The TDs are volunteers and they do the best they can (sometimes it's not much). They get some training materials when they are authorized to run tournaments but it takes a bit of practice to learn everything.

Providing them with a copy of the laws of duplicate contract bridge would be good too.

For this particular club, one person is the "host" and sets up the tournament, but that person is not around during play, and someone else is the director. So, it's not clear that the actual director has received any training. Of course, there's only so much complaining one can do about free tournaments...
