How would you assess the skill level/lifetime ranking of someone who opens 3 clubs Red versus White, vulnerable, in first chair with...

?

Wouldn't occur to a beginner, suspect good player mucking around.

Doesn't even come close to the worst bid I've ever seen. People routinely make calls that have exactly 0% chance of working out, such as trying for/driving to slam when there is no chance for slam. This preempt can work out often.

That said, it is a pretty horrible bid r/w. Skill level and masterpoints, I don't know. It could be almost any, except the very top and the very bottom. There are people on all levels who have selective memories.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I'm not in the habit of assessing people's skills on the basis of one bid, nor am I in the habit of equating that with any sort of "lifetime ranking".

Just when you are about to lose faith in all human beings, Phil Clayton makes exactly the right comment at exactly the right moment.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Oh, was going to ask if if I could get his name and whether he played for money ...

Coming from a man who has previous for a 2 opener (0-10 4+ cards) in first seat with Jxxx, xxx, xx, Jxxx (which generated a telephone number in the plus column when LHO overcalled 3 with KJxxx and a 14 count and partner had AQ10x and a 22 count).

Anyone ranging from my 9-year-old nephew to Meckwell might have done this given the opponents, phase of the moon, etc.

I would suspect he was regular at the Bedlam Bridge Club. BTW hopefully this was a team match or at least IMP pairs :D

OK, bidding 3 is one thing, sure it's bad but sometimes people just feel like fooling around.

But, an even modestly competent player who is fooling around, will at least have the decency to not lay this down as dummy in 3NTx. If fooling around, take the punishment yourself.

You haven't played enough bridge if this is the worst bid you've ever seen.

I haven't played much comparatively, but holy frickitash, imagine leaving in 3NT x.

For the record this player is a life master, who was justifying her 3C opening because she had a 7 card suit.

I've seen an "expert " who likes to psyche open a hand like this 3 r/w! I was LHO when this happened, and passed 6 good spades. It went all pass and declarer managed to go down 9 undoubled. Cold top for us with no slam on. This was about the fourth session of duplicate I had played. Mr. Expert's partner (who was a good intermediate quickly approaching advanced) never said a word! But he also never played with the guy again.

May not be the worst ever but in contention.

A clearcut 2nt opener so you can pass stayman.

2NT would be clear cut with x xxxxx - xxxxxxx but not here. What do you do after a transfer?

In other news, agree with Phil although I would have preferred 10 3 in the majors.
