BOTH tables had similar auction, landing in hopeless 3NT, when 6♦ has a play (and makes as cards are). (at the other table, my hand started with multi 2D .. the auction was

How should the auction go?

Hard to fault South.

From North's point of view, South could have a number of different hands where 3NT is best. But I still think it's a close call and North should maybe prefer 5♦ to 3NT.

Certainly easy to see what north was thinking. His 3 small hearts look very NTy, the rest of his hand looks good for 5D. I could easily see duplicating this auction.

I think that there are more handtypes, where 5 ♦ is superior. But of course, if partner had the other black queen, I would regret my choice.
