3 diamond bid that doesn't match description and even if it did, still a horriable bid

Really don't understand the 3♦ bid.
It's probing for 3nt or spade game, because probably 3c is poorly defined, and it thinks you are stronger than you actually are, even though 1nt limited your hand. 3c should be restricted to 2 sp probably (I think most hand with 3 sp would try 2sp over 2h), and 14- total pts, I think it thinks 16+ total pts is possible. Also it should definitely be 6+ clubs (rebid in comp) so it shouldn't be groping for other strains.
3c isn't an auction that comes up a whole lot since 1nt isn't supposed to have 6 clubs very often. Plus East shouldn't be bidding 2h here a lot either, balancing on non-fit auctions is rather dubious.

I would expect South's bidding to show something like
(1)1NT shows a maximum of 4D, not 5D.
(2)3♣ shows a minimum of 5C, not 4C.
(3)North's pass of 1N shows a maximum of 3H; with 5-4 in the majors, North would bid 2♥ with a minimum and with 4-4 he would have started with 1♥. This 3H maximum should be included in the 3♦ explanation.
(4)Since North makes the 3♦ bid on this actual hand (after sims?) the explanation should include 3D, not a minimum of 4D.
I think the following changes are appropriate for the explanations:
(1)1NT shows a maximum of 4D, not 5D.
(2)3♣ shows a minimum of 5C, not 4C.
(3)North's pass of 1N shows a maximum of 3H; with 5-4 in the majors, North would bid 2♥ with a minimum and with 4-4 he would have started with 1♥. This 3H maximum should be included in the 3♦ explanation.

this sort of goes back to what we had problems with previously when we did bar
bids on 4-5 hands not 4-6 hands...GIB was making bar bids on hands that were way
too strong....so what the ramifications on the bidding when he doesnt make the
bar bid but backs into after passing the 1NT call.
some of the earlier hands GIB had 2 Aces and one King where he bid 3 minor over
1NT, here he is weaker by a jack or so but has pretty good 5 card major...so is
3♦ more of probe for playing 5-2 major fit, really puts the gun to the
opener.
Is this the way GIB probes for this type of fit? Most of us would just pass 3♣
bids on 4-5 hands not 4-6 hands...GIB was making bar bids on hands that were way

bar bid but backs into after passing the 1NT call.

I might not be following some of your comments correctly.
It looks like on the hand you posted that maybe GIB expects South to have this hand
and Souths Pass of 1NT, I assume you mean Norths pass of 1NT unless you are referring
to Souths pass of 2♥
