How to avoid this bidding disaster ? I normally autopull these double when im void but here it looked like it was pure penalty since north wasnt able to overcall 1S.

Also in defense I think underleading A of H is the good play but my reasonning was that if partner wanted me to play a 3rd club he would have return the Q of H suggesting he wasnt expecting a 3rd trick. Ive blundered when I didnt realize that its impossible for declarer to have 3H without the A of D after the 3S bid.

Ps how to make diagram bigger ?

Reason for edit: To demonstrate how to make the hand larger... benlessard you can edit this post to see what I did.

From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

x is fine

w is the one that knows the opps have a 9 card (at least)
spade fit not E. W should realize the danger of either an
extremely small penalty or worse opps making and make
their most likely to make bid of 3n (they do have 8 probable
tricks 4 diam wih lho on lead and p did x 3s for penallty.

P will probably pull to 4h and that will be end of story.
Sometimes preempts work but there is normally little
reason for alolowing them to become disasters.
