About 8 years ago, as an April Fools joke, one of the then club committee members, pre-dealt a phoney board which he mixed in with the rest of the boards to be played during the course of the evening. All four pockets of the board contained exactly the same hand. I don’t recall the exact hand, other than it was a nice juicy one with 16-17 HCP. Needless to say that the bidding from all four players went ballistic with doubles and redoubles a big part of the auction. Only at level four with no one backing down did the players realise that something was fishy. By this time the joker who had prepared the phoney board was in stitches.

If it was a flat 16-17 the bidding would probably go
1NT (P) 4NT (P)
6NT (x) all pass
1NT (P) 4NT (P)
6NT (x) all pass
