I was practising at the wonderful site http://www.saycbridge.com, when the following hand came up:
K 10 4 3
Q 9 7
A 8 7 6
10 3
South (me) passes. West opens with 1. North bids 2(Michael's) and then East passes.
What should I(South) bid?

I bid 3, since as per my notes this shows interest in a game in . Interestingly, the site corrected me to 3. As per my notes however, 3 is pre-emptive. (Apparently it could not recognize the 3 as a valid response, which was a surprise.)

Please suggest the appropriate bid.
Regards,
Vipin

It looks like a fun website. You may have outgrown it if you have notes on how to bid over Michaels, though. Your 3 bid looks fine.

My guess is that the authors of the website just didn't program in the 3 bid over Michaels.

The website authors may also have felt that the hand is too weak for 3 - to some extent that depends on your definitions for a 2 overcall. An alternative plan on this hand which you might consider is to respond 2NT, then bid 3 if partner shows clubs or 4 if partner shows diamonds. All 3 of these possible responses (2NT; 3; 3) are quite reasonable. Not everyone plays Michaels the same way.

Depending on the Michaels version you happen to play, I dont think I
have game interest oppossite the weak version.
If partner has the strong version, he will usually only need the fit.

Hence I would just bid 3S.

On a side note - 3S in the given seq. is NOT preemptive, since openers
partner did not speak, it showes some value, not much, basically what
you have.

The Queen of hearts and the bal. nature of the hand are minus factor, the
4th trump is an plus.
