1 playing 15-17.
The 14 HCPS are nice, just aces and kings. But: 3433, no nines, no eights, just one ten.
Kind Regards

The problem is the position.

Ask yourself, how do you feel, if 3NT comes back to you, if you want to be in game vs. 9-10
bal., because if partner holds 9-10 bal. a max for for the bidding, he will bid 3NT.

If partner would not be a passed hand, than he could have more, and if he bids 3NT, he may
hold only 9-10 bal., but this would be a min for the 3NT bid, he could have more.

With kind regards

1. If i had doubleton I may open 1N at MP to make it harder for them to find their fit.

Now I cant see any reason to upgrade, I will be unhappy if partner bids game on a random 10 count. Apart from that the field will not be opening 1N and taking anti-field auctions is usually a bad idea, especially when they have more downsides than upsides

I agree with 1 but I certainly don't dislike having aces and kings. The shape is poor and an unsupported ten is not worth all that much. Make it Kxx AKxx xx A10xx and I would upgrade.

No upgrade for me with sterile 4333 distribution and no spots of consequence.

opening bids are so light that when one sees a balanced 14 count they see the
stars. There is nothing special about this 14 count except that it would be considered
slammish opposite a partner making a mild slam try. That won't happen here since p
is a passed hand. I have little interest in having p suddenly bidding 3n with a 9 count
stuck in between 2n and 3n. We are probably better off if P can play the
hand since we have nothing in dia and only the spade K vulnerable to attack. The
best way to avoid the negatives and steer the hand into p is to start with

Glad everyone else knows what OP's opening 1NT range is.

I would definitely open a 13-15 NT.
