:)

Certainly in the UK I could get yesterday's games on Sky (satellite TV), today's on Sky or BBC digital radio, all of them live. I used to listen on US forces network as I'm reasonably close to the bases in Lakenheath/Mildenhall, not sure if that's an option in Germany.

Patriots winning surely but don't tell me. ;)

Yup got that right at least, wouldn't have had Vereen on my shortlist of possible MVP candidates though... let's see if he keeps it up in the second half!

And Kaepernick... wow, just wow.

Wait... what? They ruled it's not a fumble because he had made "forward progress", and that's not reviewable? Why not?

Some of these reviewable/not-reviewable rules really don't make sense.

The ruling is that his forward progress had been stopped and therefore the play was over before the fumble had occurred. As this is a judgment call by the officials and is not something that can be seen on a video replay, it is not subject to review.

I think it's usually much easier to see whether the ball has crossed the line of scrimmage than whether it's crossed the goal line, yet they allow reviews on touchdowns...

Tell me you watched Seattle/ATL. 2 of the best playoff games in recent times in the same round of the playoffsin the same year...pretty sick.

Ship the SB to the pats tho lol. They don't even have to play their nemesis.

They REQUIRE reviews on all touchdowns.

Part of the problem is that when forward progress is stopped, the ref should blow the whistle, "ending" the play. They don't seem to be able to review this aspect of the action.

Actually I watched the first half and then switched to Pats vs. Texans because Atlanta was dominating so clearly. Guess the 2nd half is a bit more interesting, I'll be watching that tomorrow.

It's not reviewable for the same reason that there is no review at all in soccerfootball.

OK so apparently the only thing Atlanta's defense is actually good at is putting pressure on the quarterback, and Wilson just had to move around a bit more to get better results in the 2nd half.

Well, I'm confident that the 49ers' O-Line is looking forward to showing the Seahawks' O-Line how to do it right. 49ers vs. Patriots in the Superbowl.

mgoetze, i'm sure there are others in this forum that i'm missing, but i'd be in favor of watching the games each week with you and jlall, especially in the playoffs. you seem to have some insight.

not that others don't. just given the threads.

So this year I decided to try and understand football before the super bowl. I watched a few games, and it seems like whenever there's a 2nd & 2 (or 2nd & 1, 2nd & 3) situation, the offense goes for a rushing play with a high probability of gaining 3-5 yards. The commentators don't seem to think this is controversial, or maybe they're just too busy talking about stuff unrelated to the game.

Wouldn't it make more sense to try a risky long pass play in these situations? After all, if it fails, you still have 2 more tries to make that safe short rushing play. Or am I missing something?

Going for a big play on 2nd and short (and in other situations where the defense might expect run) is nothing new.

It appears on 2nd and 2 you just allow Kaepernick to run his option thang, and he gains about 15 yards a pop :)

The option thang is called "Ride and Decide". When the QB fakes the handoff and runs off right tackle, it's called "Samurai".

Good story in today's paper about Chris Ault and the Pistol Offense, so named because the quarterback takes the snap closer to the line of scrimmage and hands off closer to the line of scrimmage than in the shotgun formation.
