Playing natural 5-card majors (15-17 NT), the auction begins
1♣-1♥* 4+ spades 4+HCPs
1♠*-2♣** 3 spades 11-19 HCPs **relay (whatever that means)
I play this with one of my regular p's but I'm not sure what the answers to the relay are. (I know, it's a little strange to play a convention without knowing how it works, but fact is that it allmost never occurs since responder usually makes a limited call in either spades or notrumps). In particular:
- Is the auction forcing to 2NT or should we be able to sign off in 2♠, presumably a 4-3 fit?
- Can responder choose between the relay and 2/3 notrumps in order to right-side the contract, or should the relay be reserved for hand that can't bid notrumps? (In the Borring Club system, which also uses 4-card transfers, there is a transfer-to-notrumps bid (3♠ in this scenario) in order to right-side the contract without disclossing opener's holding).
- Responder can, with less than 11 HCPs, have a longer diamond suit. Should it be possible to play in 2♦? If so, should that go through a non-forcing 2♦ canapé bid or through 2♣ as a puppet to 2♦?

The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

The way I played T-Walsh, 1S showed not only exactly 3 spades but also a minimal hand (so 1S could easily be passed). I don't know how to continue after 1S if it is virtually unlimited.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
