It doesn't really show anything it just says "I am going to play 2s period"

Whether it is wise to bid it in a five card suit depends a.o. on how often opener rebids 1nt with a singleton.

This does not show 6 spades IMO.

Imagine that you decided to play weak nt instead of strong (or vice versa if your 1nt rebid was 15-17). What would happen? you'd open 1nt and get transferred to 2♠ and partner would pass. That's what this shows. A hand that would transfer and pass if you had agreed to open 1nt showing what ever range your 1nt rebid shows. Obviously if you often raise on 3, partner might sometimes pass 1nt with a 5 card suit. But partner may well bid 2♠ with 5 opting to play the 5-2 or occasional 5-3 fit rather than 1nt.

yes


for example you expect pard if you open a weak nt hand to pass 1nt often with less than 6s and a weak hand.

Here you do not even promise 2s and at times deny 3 spades.

It helps a bit if you raise with 3 and a side stiff often or side xx sometimes.

Especially at MPs, I think you need to be allowed to rebid 2S on some hands with only 5 spades.

For example passing 1NT with [QJT8x x Kx JTxxx] is just silly.

"Usually 6 spades, but can be a good 5 card suit in an appropriate hand", is probably a fair description.

Maybe not so silly. What do you assume opener rebid with x AQxx Q10xxx Axx ? There's no good way to get to 2♣, and 1NT rates to be better than either 2♦ or 2♠. I prefer to rebid 1NT with that sort of hand, so I would not rebid 2S with your example.
