Robot North's canapé style of responding to double took me by surprise. Is this standard nowadays? I see some logic to it (provided that the auction does not die at 2H, which it very well might)
I guess that I will never know whether East would have stood the redouble. I suppose probably not. But given that 4SXX+2 outscores 6S=, as North I think I would have given East the opportunity, rather than wheel out Blackwood only then to subside in 5S.
This canapé approach does not appear to be new to 35. As I played this, version 35 had only just been released, and I am guessing that the other tables were on version 34. The auctions were varied, but most started with an initial canapé response to the double, eg:
