On the North hand when partner splinters I think 3N is mandatory.

And yes, south should not splinter, but bid 1, but was just checking system

I think the best solution would be to not play splinters over a minor opening that doesn't even guarantee 4 cards.
But yes, 3NT makes more sense than diamonds.

Was this really with the advanced bots? Makes sense with the free ones but can't see any reason the advanced bot would bid 4.

It would be nice if we could see who we are playing against, just like in real bridge, but I haven't found a way to check if I am playing against normal or advanced bots

Testing on the 2012-version GIB simulates and bid 3N (Explaining That bid shows: 3+ D; 5- H; 5- S; 11-18 HCP; 12-22 total points; partial stop in C; partial stop in H; partial stop in S)

But looking at the explanation of 4 it more looks like a rule has been executed, as the explanation is not the same as for the opening

If it's a challenge, it's shown in the challenge description if the challenger paid for an advanced bot.

If it's a basic bot, then there's no issue here; the basic bot's bid is 4, because 3nt shows stoppers in both suits. But understanding hand evaluation opposite this splinter is precisely what the advanced bot's logic is for, and what tells it to bid 3nt; there's no real point in trying to code this into the database.

Have confirmed today's advanced robot (at least almost) always bids 3NT, so the only bug here is likely the fact you were playing with cheap robots :) They're pretty crippled by the removal of simulations.
