The auction starts on your left with 1NT-p-2D(xfr)-???
When you have D you can double to show them. If you have S and a minor, can you bid 2H to show that kind of a hand?

Unless you play 2H as a 3-suiter with short hearts.
It's a matter of partnership agreement.

I tried to find the thread where Fred made a strong case against playing 2H as a strong 3-suiter short in hearts, but I couldn't find it. It was a thread that I started perhaps a year ago, is there a way to search only for threads that I started, that would make the search easier. Does anybody remember the name of the thread?

If found Fred's post:

(I searched for posts by Fred containing 'Ben' and 'Michaels' btw, as I remembered the first sentence of his post...)

The easiest way to count losers is to line up the people who talk about loser count, and count them. -Kieran Dyke

there should be a difference between 2H and 2S: 2H shows 5 spades, and minor 4/+. 2S shows 4 spades and a minor 5/+ [I play 2H/2S inverted: 4S/5m has a higher frequency, and better pre-emptive value)
