No.

If you can make 4NT, there is a fair chance that you
will beat 4S -3.

NO, LOTT says if opp have 9 spades and we can make 3nt then total tricks =9+7=`16 total tricks. If we can make 4nt then opp can only make 6 tricks in spades. 16-10=6 tricks for opponents.

what did 2nt by partner mean? in any case, i don't see how 4nt can be natural here

If you agree that 4NT is natual then it is natural.

I would never make this agreement.

5d down 2 versus 4s making both vul seems normal enough, what disaster?
