Thanks for reminding me about that thread, Justin. It is http://forums.bridge...topic=6062&st=0 - we hold 9xx AKJ KQ97x J8 over RHO's 1 opening.
The easiest way to count losers is to line up the people who talk about loser count, and count them. -Kieran Dyke

Wow - it's interesting to see how my opinion has changed after a couple of years.

I think taking a call with the old hand looks pretty obvious.

Is ELC (Equal Level Conversion) not widely used by experts?

I would say that >50 % of experts do not use this convention, but thats a guess. I would definitely say thats true in USA.

How come ELC isn't more widely used? Is it becaus eif teh opps jack up the bidding and Advancer (the pard of the Dbler) bids at the 3 level, and you correct from to you may be too high?

Why not use ELC? What are its disadvantages? In your experience how ha sit not worked out ok?

That is one reason. Also, how about that you might want to double and bid on a good hand with diamonds! Now you have made auctions on that type of hand much much worse.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

In the direct seat. ELC is frequently used with some other nonsense like top and bottom cues and special jump overcalls to show hearts and a minor. Vintage Max Hardy stuff that most pairs have thrown out.

thx for finding this, cant believe it was 3 years ago lol. I am not surprised by my initial comment in that thread but my views have definitely changed, probably as a direct result of this thread.
