♠Kx ♥AKQJxx ♦AK ♣KJT
You open 2♣. What is your strategy over a response that shows 4 controls?

That's not a monster.
AKQJ76 AKQ A8 AK is a monster, which came up in our Premier League last weekend. With partner holding the ♦K all ten pairs scored 1510/1520.

If IMPs, and partner has a balanced hand or one that can support hearts, 7♥.
Otherwise, yeah, 7NT.

Show spades and diamonds, drag partner to 7NT, and hope I get a chance to redouble.

It may seem that the system worked well but this is an illusion. We are a level higher than most and there are excellent methods to find out about those two aces later.

So the options appear to be:
1) play straight up, and bid hearts and hope to find out enough to make an informed decision
2) blast 7N now and hope for a good dummy, or a friendly club lead, or a good guess
3) bid clubs, in the hope of getting raised, and asking for the Queen of clubs ... downsides are that he may show me the Queen with 'extra' length, and that this is the best way both to (usually) prevent a club lead or to avoid a defensive error.
I go for the blast... 7N. Given that this is anywhere from cold to about a 50-50 proposition (I exclude the nightmare stiff A of clubs), this seems right to me. I hope the opps are either tired or not true experts... they may get confused on the count when I run my hearts.. or may find that they have a choice of Queens to unguard.

Jumping to 7N is beyond horrible and getting to 7N if partner shows anything other than a black queen in some auction is beyond horrible. There is no rush, just start with 3H and expect to get to 7H unless something interesting happens.

well, 7N makes a lot more sense in mps.. and Phil didn't specify the scoring. I admit I didn't check, either
But my expectation for 7♥ at mps would be slightly below average, unless the field was appallingly weak, while 7N will be either tied for bottom or tied for top, with an expectation of slightly over average on average
If we are playing imps, then you are right...

Or, he'll think that responder had extra length and treated it as a queen. More likely, they'll simply think we screwed up.
(Not that I really mean to be defending my approach, which was at least partially in jest.)
