I have been wondering. The line-up deadline was 15th of April and the deadline for submission of systems today.
EBL has been threatening us very harshly with an automatic penalty for any delays with the systems: the partnership would have would have to play a WBF standard system for at least 2 days.
Also a 200 SFR fine is automatic, and brownstickers and other conventions might be forbidden for the pair for the entire event.
Hmmm. Laissez faire or robot-like discipline, which one applies?

I think that Italy is a huge favourite - as usual. But where is Denmark on your list, Gerben?

I took a look at the official tournament site, team Russia has been already registered, but not submitted until now, the line up is not published.

Although they are currently a team of four .... so there is space available.

Yes, it is strange. Kokish recently came back from a coaching trip to Moscow and told me that it wasn't decided when he left if B-Z would play.

He confirmed that the matter, apparantly, would be decided this week. I didn't ask why.

It's seems as if it's still possible to amend players.

these informations come from russian sites and are unconfirmed:

1) Team Russia was correctly registered with pairs A, B, C before deadline.

2) Participating of pair C is still issue in Credential Committee of EBL

3) Participating of pairs A & B is already submitted and published

4) If EBL will not allow pair C to start in Europeans, a pair D can be nominated.

It's not difficult to figure out that the pair in question is Balicki - Zmudzinski. Whether they are eligible or not remains to be seen. The issue is obviously the EBL Bona Fide Residence Requirements.

Because people have a nasty habit of identifying with their country. More people would root for a team carrying the name of a country than for a team named after their sponsor, or some funny acronym.

Therefore, contests between countries attract more public attention and more sponsors.

Very simple, the teams involve represent the country they are playing for. I know I had some funny feeling when I represented Germany, and even more so when I was playing against the Netherlands.

There are plenty of tournaments that work differently, like the transnationals.

In other sports, you are required to have the nationality of he country that you compete for. So in a way this regulation is relaxed.

On the other hand in an united Europe nationality should be completely irrelevant (for competition in sports).
