Further to the **how long have you been playing** question, many have reported a gap in playing.

When I first started playing bridge, I played for 6 months and a gap was caused by the premature death of my 81 year old partner.

I have only played online ever since, can only play online and there have not been gaps since.

How many have had gaps since playing online?

How many partners have you sluffed?m and did you willingly contribute to their demise?

PS-- THE AUTOPSY EXONERATE ME, MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

More gaps than can be counted, both online and offline.

Are we talking about gaps in playing or complete abstinence? Once you have been bitten by the bug is it possible to stop thinking bridge? If not playing then at times aren’t you reading and thinking of hands, past and future, bids, plays, 4333, 5431, 6115, 4252’s

That's a good point. I have written about bridge when not playing - the difference to me is when actively playing the thoughts are virtually daily thoughts; when not playing, something must spur the thinking (like reading BBO forums).

I had a 12 year absence from FTF bridge from 1987 to 1999 when our kids were small.

Not a total absence, since I accumulated 30 points in this period.

I once had a gap of more than one month during summer. Horrible experience.
