After 1Major and jacoby 2 NT response what should Opener's rebid of 4 in a new suit mean?
Textbooks I have read suggest a second 5 card suit headed by KQ or better.Recently some experts advocated a 5 card suit with 2 losers like Qxxxx or Kxxxx suggesting slam if responder can cover the losers in the second suit.Which treatment is better ?

I don't know. I just use it as 17+ and FOUR card side suit. Responder bids by steps as follows
1♥ 2NT
4♣ ...??
4♦ = no fit in the side suit
4♥ = side fit + min
4♠ = side fit + extras
If there's fit, then 4NT becomes RKCB for the SIDE suit.
The idea is to pick up those magic double-fit slams where you make 6 in the side suit but not in the main suit. Example:
xxx
Axxx
Kxxx
Ax
Ax
KQJxx
AQJx
xx
Makes 6♦, but not 6♥.

I suspect since this rates to be one your main trick sources that it be based on probablilty which means Hxxxx rather than HHxxx.

I choose between showing shortness and a five card side suit based on which message I want to transfer to my partner:
- Your honors in my five card suit excellent, honors in other side suits are of less value
- Your honors in my shortness suit are of little value, honors in the other suits are much better.
Thus a I always tend to show a Hxxxx suit, while with a HHxxx-suit I might show the shortness. Especially a five card suit headed by AK works against almost any holding. I recall a discussion some time ago, here it is http://forums.bridge...showtopic=29348, where showing a AKJxx side suit did not work well. Well it was a hard hand to bid anyway, but in my opinion 3♥ seems as a better start on that hand.
