I prefer that LHO respond 1S and opener rebid 2S, so I can double. But, I would probably mess this up with an overcall and then remember why I liked my real preference after things went badly.

1 - can't ignore KQJx at MPs, although the preemptive value of 2 is a good reason to.

In the end, I think its probably the opponents hand in spades and I really want that heart lead.

So far my choice of 1 is not as unpopular as I thought it would be. 1 is my call, my second choice is pass.

Wow, this was a very different problem when I answered the poll (diamonds and clubs were reversed)...

Interesting...with XX KQJX KQTXX XX, I would consider it an easy 1H. I could even bid 2D on the next round with a natural meaning in some cases. (Old style of unknown origin).

On my usual scale of best choice forced to 10 and noting this is MP all white.

2=10
1=8
Pass=0

I prefer 2 here since that is a good 5 card suit whereas my are a good 4 card suit. Perhaps it is the lead I want when the opps declare and 2 takes up more room. The last time I held this basic hand and I didn't make a 4 card overcall and overcall my good 5 card minor I ended up crushing the opps in 4x. All that being said, outbids so I give 1 an 8 with this fine suit.

Passing to me is LOL when my hand has this much trick taking potential and when I am happy to have either suit lead and when bidding now is more likely to lead to winning the part score battle or even finding game making.

I don't want to play with partners who pass here. .. neilkaz ..

2 - showing hearts and clubs, the latter longer or stronger, or both.

With all due respect, I know that having 4 pointed suit losers isn't so good, but to me that hand is good enough for an overcall and both round suits are good enough for either overcall. This hand should provide tricks in either suit and also should provide tricks if we end up playing elsewhere.

I would overcall R/W at Imps and this is W/W at MPs.

Please explain your reasoning for passing.

2C but would bid 1S with spades instead of hearts.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.
