I quite like the idea of being able to play in four of a major when I have three losers.

well, up the boundary to 2- and 3+ then. But then you have

4D = 3-5 losers, perhaps to wide a range
4NT= 0-2 losers, which comes out once in a blue moon

the 3-5 losers range might be a bit too wide, so you might not be solving the problem.

4 = asking for the major, either a mild slam try or a slam force
4M = pass or correct, either a signoff hand or a slam try in the other major

I like this method, and it feels natural.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Using 4D for diamonds plus a major is already terrible imo.

With a great hand you can always bid more after partner's response.

Well, if you don't like natural bids why don't you take up strong club?

Thats not what he meant. It had nothing to do with him liking natural bids or not.

"Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say."

An article i read by Kokish suggests:
4C = some 1 suiter
4D = both majors
4H = H & D
4S = S & D

I also play this over opponents wk. 2 bids.
