I will open 2 showing 8-12 points and a 6 card suit and be happy that I play that method when I pick this hand up :)

Sadly you are not playing American weak twos. Your Two Spade opener at love all would be 5-9 with six spades.

You should go with your first thought and run this as a poll lamford. Many people will not comment once the first 2 have posted 3S and they agree with them. For those that do not read the Laws forums lamford has a bet that the majority would open this hand 1S...

So much for not biasing the voters...

Looks like a 3 opener to me too. 1 is not absurd but I don't like it on just 1 control.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

The format makes for bias. I did not initially respond here because the 2 before me said everything necessary. Then I read the other thread and realised that if lamford is looking for a "majority" that my silence is a bias and I am probably not alone in not responding. Furthermore, in a non-poll format, as soon as one of JL, Han, Hog, MH (apologies if I missed you) post pretty much everyone will follow suit unless another of the seniors disagrees. In the poll format people have to make their own minds up if it is not made public and not too many extraneous comments follow.

Easy 3 bid. 1 with this trash is a joke and 2 NV with 7 too weak.

Hi,

If I open, it would be a preempt, and it would be either 3S or 4S.
The decision is depend on partnership agreement, as always.

The alternative is pass.

In my current partnership this would be a pass, since we have lots
of values outside spades.

1S would not cross my mind, and the same for 2S.

With kind regards

3S, don't love having random stuff on the side but what can I do, I'm not going to pass.

I know I always base my vote on the hog ;) Anyways, of course you're right minus one detail perhaps :P However, in this case it seems like everyone had already voted 3S, except for the 2S voter.

I'd open it 1. I don't mind 4, but I hate 3 with so much defence.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Isn't opening 4 with a lot of defense worse than opening 3 with a lot of defense?

3 seems obvious. I can't imagine opening 1 on this hand ever. 4 might be the winning call, but I don't like going out on a limb when I have a perfectly descriptive call available.

Playing standard methods, nothing but 3 would occur to me.
