I really can't complain about the result here because it was my mistake to push into a spade slam instead of the much easier club slam. Yet the play at trick 9 here is remarkable. All set up for a trump coup, but then inexplicably plays low from dummy. I'm too big to cry, but it hurts too much to laugh.

No coup available at trick 9 South has no spades at that point so West has easy exits e.g. Q♥ and North has clubs still so no overruff possible. - you are guaranteed down but that club plays gives one more down- thanks for putting the boot in GIB.

Agree there's no possible trump coup, but doesn't excuse missing a 100% line to make.

At trick 9, just keep playing top clubs. When West ruffs, you can then ruff the next trick and draw the remaining trump. I meant 100% line at the point of finding the 4-1 break btw. Alternatively, just cash the ♠K before running the clubs.

Yeah, I didn't understand the club duck...That seemed to be the "misere" bridge play.

Perhaps some use a different definition of trump coup than others. The line to make is as manudude describes, and at least by one definition constitutes a trump coup, permitting declarer to take advantage of his trump tenace over West's holding despite having no trumps to lead from dummy.

This is definitely very strange, since the hand is practically double dummy at that point. I'll do some investigation.
