Playing bad fits over NT

I feel like auctions similar to this happen a lot. Perhaps I'm resulting because 5D goes down and 3NT is completely cold, but why does GIB want to play a 5-2 fit at the five level instead of 3NT?

5+♠ is a mistake indeed. It will be fixed and that could reflect on the judgement after 3NT. If doesn't will be investigated further too.

The book bid is Pass, but simulations told it to go back to opener's suit. Probably because of the poor quality of its spades and its good ♦ doubleton.
At IMPs it's 80:20 for 5♦ vs Pass, at MP it's 50:50 -- the extra matchpoints for 3NT+1 sways it.

My impression is also that this type of auctions happen a lot, and almost always lead to bad result. I dont know what the simulations say, but in 9 out of 10 hands that GIB pulls out 3NT after similar auctions 3NT seems cold and the contract I am in needs a lot of work at best.....

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

I agree with that. I also hate it when it pulls my 3NT.
I just don't know how to make it simulate better. And we don't want to disable simulations all over the place, they're necessary because it's totally impractical to cover all cases in the bidding database.

I generally don't like "3NT ends all auctions", but since GIB has these issues, how about adding a rule that 3NT ends all auctions unless GIB has at least 6 points more than the minimum he has shown, or 2 more cards more than he's shown in his longest suit? Note, I'm not saying GIB should always bid more if he meets this criteria, just that he should automatically pass if he doesn't.
Adding a rule along the lines of "3NT ends all auctions unless..." might be interesting.
Hmm... "3NT ends all auctions unless..." has to have exceptions for constructive auctions like 1N-2H-2S-3N.

Why is it bidding 3♠ at all? If it gave preference at the 3 level, it wouldn't feel the need later to guess to do it at the 5 level.

Looks like a bug. The same rule is being used for both jump shifts: 1♦-1♥-3♣ and 1♣-1♦-2♥. After either one, it will show its second suit. But that's not right in the first place, since opener has denied spades.
Also, it looks like there's a bug in what it shows. The requirements for the 3♠ bid in the rule says 5+♥ 4+♠, but the specification has it backwards.
