expert pick up pard....little to no agreements

(1s)=x=(4s)=p(you)
p=5c(pard)=(5s)=? your bid?
more important why did you choose that bid?

I'll bid 6♣. There are many constructions where this has at least play to make (say partner has ♠- ♥AKxx ♦KQx ♣AKxxxx). I suspect that often both 5♠ and 6♣ will be one down, and when this happens I probably lose 5-6 imps... but if either 6♣ or 5♠ makes bidding will be a much bigger swing in my favor, and there is also the possibility that opponents decide to bid 6♠ over 6♣.
At MP I would pass, but MP is a game of frequency whereas at IMPs the size of the win or loss has to factor in.

Another factor is if you don't bid, then partner will be very disappointed when his ♣A does not cash. I have been told it's not a good idea to let pard defend if we have a nine-card or longer fit that he doesn't know about.
