Dealer West, E-W vulnerable.

Assume Benji. Well, assume any system you like, but we were playing Benji. No bids from opponents.

If I can assume any system I want, I will use mine.

P-P-P-1 start.

Responder raises to 2.

Opener bids 3 naturally, usually slammish but possibly GT.

Responder bids 3NT, a super-accept of clubs.

Opener bids 4 to ask about details.

From this point forward, pick your grand...

"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

My methods would be 1 - 2 showing a constructive spade raise then,

3 - 3
3 - 4 and away we go, to at least but maybe only to 6 but....

4 - 6 from the hand that has promised 3 spades already should get us there.

Hand is no more than a 4 loser hand, so able to open strong 2 .

2 - 2 (waiting)
2 - 3

Showing 8+ and Hxx or xxxx in

3 NT

Starts cueing denies 1st round control

..... 4 (1st round control)

4 (1st round control, no 1st round control)

..... 4 NT (waiting bid, not RKCB, still interested in slam)

6 (2nd round controls in , , and , 3rd round control, no 3rd round control)

Note must be solid. With a potential loser and missing A, opener wouldn't go past 5 .

..... 6 (1st round control)

6 (3rd round control - focusing attention on potential loser)

..... 7 ( Looks like I've got you covered.)

ok here is the much less complicated way
2c=2d(art gf)
2s=3s(something extra)
5h=6c( 2deny Qs...5h=exclusion)
7s

on this simple auction you miss 7c when it is better

Thanks for the replies so far - most interesting. It goes to show, I've got a lot to learn about accurate bidding! :unsure:

This hand cropped up on BBO, dupl IMPs.

At our table I opened 2 and partner responded 2NT which I took to mean game try (is 3 better?) - anyway we ended in 6 :( . But out of the sixteen tables played, only one bid the Grand - in spades - and somehow contrived to go down, I'm perplexed as to how: since there were no first-round ruffs for defence, the Grand was a laydown.

We were one of only two tables to reach six. I don't regard my bidding as my strong side, so I was fairly chuffed with that. :)

3c from partner would show a better suit than this.

2nt is fine by him - it should show a balanced positive (game force).

I would start with 2 and miss the grand unless I am inspired enough to bid 5 over 3 raise.
