The bidding was sort of weird too. Would you have bid it differently?

I'm interested in this one, so I'll spice it up to bump it back to your attention.

In the postmortem pd said it was the worst bid hand of the century, matched only by the play of hand. He's a friend and we frequently gratulate each other with comments like this, no offence taken. However, I quite liked my 2N.

I would have played as you did.

Seems our only hope now is West started with xx/Txx/KQxxxxx/x (I would have opened 3d on that, but perhaps he would not). If West started with 4 trumps, 2 rounds of diamonds will kill dummy's side winners (even if East switches to a black suit after winning A there is no way home). If West started with seven diamonds to the ace, ace and another would force us to ruff high. If West started with xx/Qxx/KQxxxxx/x a diamond to the ace and a black suit back will leave us with a certain trump loser.

Perhaps 3NT would have been better - at least you tried to get there.

After the ruff we already know East is 5-5 in the blacks. This is the point where I didn't know what to do and wanted to see whether anyone else has a better vision on how to proceed. It doesn't make, but I went down 3 and I should have limited the damage. -2 was average, -1 would have been a very good score.

It was a good idea to drive out A quickly but then, IMO, you should play s. Hoping for a lucky position or a break, and preserving your black cards for communications.

That's what I did for my -3. The better line was to play diamonds and ruff as much as possible, with careless opps you can keep it to -1. Hearts were 5-0
