Understood, this hand is a lot more appealing in texture and shape to open 1

KQxxx xxx Axxx x

A hand an aggressive opener would bid game
After 4 card mixed raise or if you must make a game try,so accepting a 4 Card conservative limit raise easy 🙏
As far as opening 1D canape, pretty old school..

Now, obviously, it's no longer a J2NT problem since that requires 4-card support. Just an everyday hand evaluation problem.

Yes and No.

The first question you have to ask, partner opens in a major, do you force to game with an average weak NT hand
with or without a fit. having a fit, makes the hand stronger, the better the fit, the better the hand.

J2NT comes into the picture later, after you decided, that the hand is worth a game force.
With kind regards

This took me about 2 seconds to decide on a J2nt response. We have good methods over 2nt.
Given the aggressive openings nowadays, have you upgraded your j2nt range?

Don't tell anyone but I have a relaxed set of criteria for 2NT :)

I have not access to all my hands but I feel it rarely backfires

I don't like giving away secrets but I always though 8 trumps was enough to think about game
But if your hand is vaguely n trumpish and good enough and game looks ok and you can wear a slam exploration why not

13+ points, 3+ trumps sometimes (idealy 4) and cover elsewhere

Similar philoslphy for splinters really. Is game on and need to cover chance of slam exploration

How else to show a game force with support and such a hand

On said OP hand I am not sure I am bidding 2NT - maybe 3 spades

There seems to be a disconnect between my understanding of J2NT and the way some of you play it. If I have a GF hand with 3-card support for opener's major, I make a 2/1 bid. With 4-card support, I turn to J2NT and splinters. Pretty straightforward and knowing whether we have an 8- or 9-card fit is important to me.

My understanding too.

That is my understanding too, although we do not play J2NT (we use 2NT for the invites, with a checkback to identify 4 card support and shape: plenty of ways to skin a cat).

This from Standard Modern Precision, p. 166:

"SMP Jacoby 2NT":

2NT shows a limit raise or better over partner's 1M opening bid. The hand may be unbalanced. Responses over 1:

3: Any hand that would accept any limit raise. Game Forcing
....3: Original Game Force, balanced, requests opener show shortness
....3: No shortness
....3/NT/4: Singleton in the high/middle/low side suit (control bid now or sign off)
....4: Original limit raise, slam is impossible.
3: Artificial counter-try, about 13 HCP balanced or 12 unbalanced.
....3: declining, with a "bad" limit raise
....3: The other major. Balanced slam try, asks for shortness.
........step 1 (here, 3NT): no shortness
........step 2/3/4: shortness in the high/middle/low side suit.
....3NT/4/4: unbalanced slam try, high/middle/low shortness
....4: knows enough, there is no slam
3: (Opener's major) double negative, 11-12 balanced or 10-11 unbalanced with only 4 cards in the major.
....3: (step 1) Balanced slam try. Control bidding may commence. Responder has a really good hand in view of the double negative.
....3NT/4/4: unbalanced slam try, short in the high/middle/low side suit. Control bidding now, or sign off.
....4: still wants to bid game.
3OM/3NT/4: Void in the high/middle/low side suit. Responder control bids, or signs off with no slam interest.

As a side benefit, a direct splinter is more specific:

1: 3/4/4: 4+ trumps, void in the bid suit, 10-12 HCP.

I don't have much experience with this yet, but I think I'm going to like it. :-)
Note: this is, of course, in the context of limited openers. I'm not sure, but I think it could be played pretty much as is in a more standard context.
