Hi,

it is either 2S or 2C, depending on
partnership agreement.

For me the hand is nearly perfect for
a 2S bid, ... I raise rarely with only 3
card support.
The only thing missing is a spade honor,
but on the other hand, one does have
some HCP compensation.

With kind regards
Marlowe

2S and certainly not unhappy about it.

I'm the biggest overbidder of the world but I want to bid 2 here. I learned that 2 with 3 is only good on minimum hands - I know it's not std, but that's what I'm used to and all.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

This is a minimum hand as in..not close to reverse strength

As I said, I'm in the 2 camp, but this could be an outright silly contract. Imagine the opponent's drawing our trump then cashing a few diamonds when we have a 5-3 or 5-4 club fit.

Clear 2 IMO. Not close to reversing values. 2 isn't perfect, but it's clearly better than the alternative(s).
Kind regards,

Clear 2 for me playing 2/1 or SAYC. Not happy about it, this sort of hand makes me think "why the hell am I not playing Precision?" (in which 2 is obvious).

not a reverse hand, so 2S.

I don't understand this. P will expect 4-card support. It is nice to have something to compensate for your disappointing 3-card spades.

I suppose the theory is that with a 3154, with a minimum you raise immediately so raising via 2 would show extras. But with this hand I don't really see any alternative to 2. Agree that the hand is very strong for that bid, though.

 What, in your opinion, is a minimum 2 vote with 3-4-1-5 distribution?

2 if that's ok in your partnership, else either 2 or 2 are ok. A tad light for the reverse, but the excellent shape and concentration of honors in the main suits compensates for that.

just because, and days late, i'll join the 2S WTP camp. i am not at all a huge fan of raising on 3 card support, but the hand seems ideal to me for that...one trump honor would be nice, but more than that and partner could end up having to ruff diamonds with trump honors.

as for raising to the 3 level on 3 card support, I can only think of one hand in recent memory that i felt warranted that. i held something like JTx x AKQTx AT9x. 2C seems like an extreme underbid, 3C an equally extreme overbid...whereas I want to be in 4S on the vast majority of hands partner has 5 trumps or 4 quality trumps.

of course, someone who shall remain nameless (ahem, MM), but has been posting in this thread, was kibitzing and immediately called my 3S bid insane.
I constantly try and "Esc-wq!" to finish and post webforum replies.

Good call by the nameless, 3S is insane on that hand and 2C is normal.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
